Snow Melts at Yokokan Garden, Fukui

Blooming plum blossoms heralding spring

One sunny day in late February, I visited Yokokan Garden. Since a sunny day is quite rare in Fukui (it's almost always gray and buried in snow during winter!), I jumped out of bed as soon as I saw sunshine through my window in the morning.

As I'd expected, Yokokan was basking in the sun as though it was celebrating the early arrival of spring. Snow was melting, birds were chirping, plum trees were blossoming, and people were chilling under the blue sky, full of hope for the coming spring. This garden is beautiful throughout the year, but perhaps the early spring awakening is the best of all seasons.
