Rishiri Island is part of Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park at the most northern tip of Hokkaido. It can best be described as a floating or emerging volcano in the middle of the Sea of Japan. In fact, it resembles Mt. Fuji, therefore the nickname Rishiri-Fuji, with the difference that it is surrounded by water. The winter is extremely quiet here; in spring and summer however, as soon as the snow melts, Rishiri Island is a paradise for nature lovers: Remote, unique and utterly beautiful.
