Arashiyama is a district in the outskirts of Kyoto known for its stunning spring and autumnal colours. An hour train ride away from Kyoto, it makes for a perfect day trip and there are so many activities to do there – boating, cycling, exploring the temples and bamboo grove.

I visited Arashiyama during the cherry blossom season. It was expectedly packed with visitors, both local and foreign. The district was bustling with activity and there was a palpable sense of excitement in the air. Amid all that hustle and bustle, one could still seek pockets of peace and quiet in the bamboo groves and forested mountains.
