Yui Station at Ono Castle Town

Inside Yui Station various local foods are on sale

Yui Station is a tourist base where you can buy local specialties (food, etc.), take a rest, and from which you can visit the castle

The open space around Yui Station is well-landscaped. There is a Japanese garden as well.

The painting of 'Meirin-kan', which was the public school owned by Ono Han (the name of this region). Sons of samurai families in Ono Han studied there.

The final destination, Ono Castle, is on top of the hill, but you should explore Yui Station first before visiting the castle

Ono Castle Town is full of surprises. When I visited, I only expected to see the castle. Instead everything I saw in this town was new, and seemed to be welcoming tourists with open arms. Yui Station was no exception. It looked new, was well landscaped, and was crowded with tourists, which is a rare sight anywhere in Fukui! The station is kind of a hub station for tourists who visit Ono Castle. You can buy local specialties and souvenirs here, as well as enjoy making traditional crafts, playing around in the spacious ground, or just chilling out and relaxing. It's a good place to recharge before hiking up the hill to reach the castle on top of the mountain!
